How to Budget for Prom

Going to prom doesn’t have to leave you with an empty wallet. Check out these ways to have a lot of fun without breaking the bank:

Create a budget

One of the first things you should do is set a budget to make sure you don’t go overboard. Prom costs can add up quickly, which can result in hefty credit card bills down the line.

Go classic

One way to make sure you’ll get your money’s worth with your prom dress is by purchasing a dress that you can wear to other social events in the future, such as a collage formal or a wedding. For example, black, gray or neutral-colored dresses, can potentially be altered down the line.

Shop online

If you see a suit or dress you love but the price tag isn’t in your budget, try searching online. You may be able to find a website selling the same style for less. You might even see exclusive online coupons, along with free shipping.

Shopping online for a prom dress is also a great idea if you prefer to wear a unique dress that fits your personality. After all, you don’t want to be caught wearing the same dress as anyone else!

Get creative

Many teenagers are under the impression that they have to spend a ton of money on a dress, limousine and activities for prom. However, your prom experience doesn’t need to fit into all of the cliches from the teen movies–especially if it’s going to send you way over budget. Think outside of the box, and have fun!
